CONSERVATION Coexistence

Hunting World's vision of "coexistence with nature."
It means exploring the unknown, experiencing the grandeur and preciousness of nature,
learning from it, and making discoveries.
We inherit the will of our founder, Bob Lee,
to protect beautiful nature and wildlife, and to realize a society that can be entrusted to the next generation.
Starting in Borneo, we support activities that connect lives.
We believe that our challenge today will be a step towards changing the future.

Why are you supporting activities in Borneo, which is so far away from Japan?

Because it is the closest island with a rainforest to Japan, and because wildlife is suffering due to the economic activities of developed nations, including our own.

Borneo, a Southeast Asian island that is home to the Bornean elephant, the world's smallest elephant and our symbol, was once a paradise known as a "treasure trove of life." However, in recent years, environmental destruction has become severe, and many animals, including Bornean elephants, are on the verge of extinction. The causes are the logging of rainforests due to timber imports and the expansion of oil palm plantations against a backdrop of industrialization. Palm oil, extracted from oil palms, is consumed in large quantities worldwide as a raw material for processed foods, detergents, and biofuels, and is closely related to our daily lives in Japan. As a result, Borneo's beautiful forests are being lost, leading to the deterioration of wildlife habitats.

Wildlife conservation activities

Please tell us why you support wildlife conservation efforts.

Before establishing the brand, Bob Lee was dedicated to the conservation of nature and wildlife. We have inherited his vision and support conservation efforts to realize "coexistence with nature," which he set as the brand's theme.

Driven by a yearning for the wilderness, Bob Lee traveled to Africa in his youth. Through his adventures, he witnessed the endangered status of wildlife due to uncontrolled hunting and poaching and was one of the first to advocate for "coexistence with nature." In 1959, he founded a safari tour company and began a research project on protected hunting animals in Africa. He established an organization to invite sport hunters and achieved wildlife conservation and management by removing poachers' traps, employing poachers as guides, and setting limits and rules for sport hunting. He continued to dedicate his life to environmental protection as an activist across national borders.

Specifically, what kind of support activities do you conduct?

We sell charity merchandise and donate a portion of the proceeds to an environmental conservation organization in Borneo.

Since 2008, we have been developing a charity series and supporting the conservation activities of the endangered Bornean elephant by continuously donating a portion of our sales through the certified NPO "Borneo Conservation Trust Japan." We actively use eco-friendly materials for items in the series and are committed to developing products with low environmental impact.

How are donations from the sale of charity goods used?

This is used to support activities that connect the lives of wildlife living in Borneo, through the certified NPO "Borneo Conservation Trust Japan."

We support projects such as the "Green Corridor Project," which aims to connect forests fragmented by the expansion of plantations and secure migration routes for wildlife to move freely, and "Giving Back to Borneo," which protects Bornean elephants whose conflicts with humans are rapidly increasing. In addition to financial support, we also back activities that sustain life in Borneo in various ways, including donating four-wheel drive vehicles and research vessels necessary for wildlife rescue, and holding talk shows and photo exhibitions to convey the local situation.

A new symbol has been created as an icon to help more people learn about our charity work. It depicts the two baby elephants, which are the motif of our brand logo, watering plants with their long trunks, causing greenery to spread across the land. This symbolizes an ideal circular society.
